Des expériences ont été menées pour étudier l'incidence saisonnière, la biologie et la gestion écologique des principaux insectes nuisibles du maïs au Département d'entomologie agricole, Collège d'agriculture, Parbhani pendant Rabi 2021-22. La population de la chenille légionnaire d'automne et de son ennemi naturel, le coléoptère coccinellidé, a atteint son maximum au cours de la 11e SEM pendant Rabi 2021-22 et la population des ravageurs suceurs était négligeable. L'humidité relative du soir a montré une corrélation négative significative avec la chenille légionnaire d'automne et le coléoptère coccinellide au cours de Rabi 2021-22. Parmi les principaux traitements, c'est le carbofuran qui a donné les meilleurs résultats en matière de gestion des populations de ravageurs. Metarhizium anisopliae et Beauveria bassiana sont les deux biopesticides qui ont potentiellement réduit la population larvaire, le pourcentage de dommages aux plantes et le pourcentage de dommages aux épis causés par la chenille légionnaire d'automne et ont considérablement augmenté le rendement en grains du maïs par rapport au maïs non traité. L'ennemi naturel, la coccinelle, a été observé. Les biopesticides peuvent donc être utilisés pour lutter contre les principaux insectes nuisibles du maïs. Les biopesticides peuvent être une meilleure alternative aux insecticides chimiques pour une gestion respectueuse de l'environnement.
