Lymphknotendiagnostik wird heute yom Kliniker mit hamatologisch-cyto- logischen Methoden und yom Pathologen mit histologischer Technik betrieben. Ein fruchtbarer Kontakt zwischen beiden Untersuchern besteht nicht; denn die Hamatologie der Klinik und die pathologische Anatomie haben sich in den letzten Jahrzehnten weit auseinander entwickelt und sprechen heute eine verschieden- artige Sprache. Es ist nicht zu leugnen, daB die klinisch-cytologischen Methoden unser Wissen von den Erkrankungen der blutbildenden Organe auBerordentlich bereichert und vertieft haben. Der Pathologe wird daher gut tun, die neuen Erkenntnisse in sein vorwiegend histologisch begrundetes Erfahrungsgut einzuordnen, doch machen die verschiedenartige Technik und die babylonische Sprachverwirrung der klinischen Hamatologie eine Synthese zwischen beiden Untersuchungsver- fahren zu einem fast hoffnungslosen Unterfangen. Sie gelingt nur, wenn der Pathologe auch die klinischen Methoden anwendet und Schnitt und Ausstrich bei aquivalenten Farbungen vergleicht. Nur so kann er an den eigenen Beob- achtungen die divergenten Darstellungen der Literatur nachprufen und gleichsam eichen. Wir haben diesen Weg beschritten und uns bemuht, in Tausenden von Vergleichspraparaten Schnitt und Ausstrich des Lymphknotens aufeinander ab- zustimmen. So entstand die vorliegende Abhandlung. Sie will ein Versuch sein, die widersprechenden Namengebungen und Zellsysteme der klinischen Hamato- logie auf einen Nenner zu bringen und in das histologische Bild zu integrieren. Die Bemiihung urn eine solche Synthese sollte dazu dienen, eine Brucke zwischen klinischer Cytologie und pathologischer Anatomie zu schlagen und ein frucht- bares Gesprach zwischen Kliniker und Pathologen zu ermoglichen.
