About The Book

"Lyrical Ballads, with a Few Other Poems," jointly authored by William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, debuted in 1798, signifying the inception of the English Romantic movement. Although initially met with moderate critical response, it evolved into a literary landmark, reshaping the trajectory of English literature. The 1800 edition, renowned for its Preface, often hailed as the Romanticism manifesto, featured additional poems and established the poets' artistic principles. Wordsworth further elaborated on these principles in the 1802 edition's appendix, titled "Poetic Diction." The collection aimed to democratize poetry, utilizing everyday language and spotlighting the experiences of common people, fostering a return to a purer state of nature.

About The Author

William Wordsworth (1770 –1850) was a leading English Romantic poet, renowned for co-launching the Romantic Age in English literature alongside Samuel Taylor Coleridge through their collaborative work, "Lyrical Ballads" (1798). Considered his magnum opus, Wordsworth's semi-autobiographical poem, "The Prelude," underwent multiple revisions and expansions, Originally referred to as "the poem to Coleridge." Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772–1834), an English poet and philosopher, co-founded the Romantic Movement with William Wordsworth. His notable works include "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" and "Kubla Khan." A literary critic, he introduced German idealist philosophy to English culture.
