Keeping to her Catholic faith, Kay shows us the way to MAKE IT HAPPEN. Kay candidly reviews different issues in Catholic youth ministry, the adversities of life, and the pure joy of God's gifts, which are our youth today. The National Conference of Catholic Bishops, in their 1997 document, Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic youth ministry, identified goals which provide direction for this ministry. In 1995 Pope John Paul II at the World Youth Day in the Philippines said, "What is needed today is a church which knows how to respond to the expectations of young people. Jesus wants to enter into dialogue with them and, through his body, which is the church, to propose the possibility of a choice, which will require a commitment of their lives. As Jesus with the disciples of Emmaus, so the church must become the traveling companion of young people..." Our objective has not changed, nonetheless, the world is changing before our eyes. Kay's goal in this book is to spark ideas to keep up with the changing world.

Kay Martinez is one of nine siblings. Like Kay, her parents and siblings are very loving and a bit silly. Kay grew up in a military connected family, as her father and grandfather were both career United States Air Force (USAF). Kay also served six years in the USAF Reserve. Kay has volunteered for many things throughout her life. Being a catechist was closest to her heart. After years of volunteering, Kay accepted a position as Ecumenical Director of Religious Education at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma. Kay's husband, Ernie was a career USAF Officer. They were assigned to fourteen different military installations in 28 years. They have two grown sons. Their eldest is now serving as an Air Force Officer Navigator making him a fifth generation USAF Airman. Their youngest son is attending college with plans to be a Theology Professor one day. Ernie and Kay's last duty station was Eglin AFB in Northwest Florida. For three years Kay was the Director for the Emerald Coast Military Catholic Youth Conference (ECMCYC) in Destin, Florida. Under Kay's direction, ECMCYC earned the 2010 National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry (NFCYM) Extreme Faithover Award. In addition, the Archdiocese for the Military Services awarded Kay the NFCYM Companions on the Journey Award.
