This book was prompted by the doubledigit inflationary spiral of last four years whose control has defied every conventional economic measure. Reasons are also crystal clear: Trillions of rupees being spent on budgetsupported social programmes to arrest the growing disparity between Englishspeaking UrbanIndia and the vast majority living in RuralBharat, which our economy cannot support. At the same time, we were also churning out 1 million Engineering B.Techs & half a million MBA’s annually deep in the interior of rural India. More than 80% of them end an expensive education without a job, with their parents deep in debt.Could we not groom some of them selectively to become Entrepreneurs and jobcreators rather than jobseekers? Can’t we harness their talent to settingup technologyled Manufacturing Industry in their neighborhood. Such enterprises would not only create productive lifelong employment in rural India, but obviate the need for social doles which only breed corruption, laziness and beggars. It is only an issue of establishing the right ecosystem. Author has coupled his 40 years of direct and indirect experience in promoting thousands of young Technoentrepreneurs in diverse fields with his recent involvement in Higher Technical Education and effort to reorient it away from rote towards Application. What has emerged in this process is his pioneering concept of sandwiching Technical Education with grooming for Entrepreneurship in the latterhalf of education. Consequent overlap of projectgestation with education period constructively uses the lowrisk years of his life when he has no personal family to establish his enterprise. Close ties of PTU’s Advanced School of TQM & Entrepreneurship with Top Mgts. of over 500 progressive industries in diverse sectors through 8years of systematic work provide it the strength to organize right Mentors.

Fully active at 79, he is the Designerinventortechnologist of the wholly Indian Swaraj tractor from scratch in the sixties. He thereafter raised Punjab Tractors Ltd, to commercialise this Swaraj technology, India’s first largescale venture in Indian Technology and pitted against intense competition from CKDbased global brandnames. He then led PTL as its CEO for 27 years into an internationally known Bluechip flagship of the Rs. 1500 crore Swaraj Group: Swaraj Mazda; Swaraj Engines & Swaraj Automotives. (1997 values) PTL was also the first Indian company to adopt Japanese TQM as Business Strategy. He called it a day with PTL in 1997.PostPTL he has used his lifelong experience to reshape our Higher Technical Education away from rote towards application and promote TQM culture in Industry. Promoting Techno entrepreneurs to face the cutthroat competition of twentyfirst century is his other passion. String of national and international recognitions include • 1978 : National Gold Shield for Import Substitution , • 1978 : Sir Walter Puckey Award for outstanding contribution to Production Engineering on the Indian Subcontinent• 1985 : Padmashree • 2001 : IMCJuran Gold Medal for Lifetime dedication to Quality,• 2012 : Changemaker Award from Rotary District (2012).His book, From Zero to Bluechip (2001) is a lesson in management.
