En este manual de Seguridad Hotelera encontrará las necesidades básicas que cualquier primer planteamiento de seguridad en establecimientos hoteleros deben seguir los vigilantes teniendo en cuenta los siguientes objetivos: reducir los riesgos de incendio, injerencia y participación en los planes de emergencia. Además, como los riesgos de robo, agresión, fraude, terrorismo, etc.; dependiendo de la categoría del hotel, de sus características, dimensiones y actividades. En todo caso, para conseguir unos parámetros aceptables de seguridad, la propiedad se planteará la puesta a punto de un programa de seguridad integral.

La seguridad debe ser interpretada como un estado subjetivo que nos permite percibir que nos desplazamos en un espacio excepto de riesgos reales o potenciales.

La seguridad es un bien intangible que sólo se materializa en todo su dimensión cuando falla. Al faltar se orientan las miradas hacia las normas existentes o ausentes en vez de definir estrategias de prevención. En este contexto, la prevención se convierte en una práctica tediosa, con costos fijos altos y acciones rutinarias y pasa de ser de una inversión a un costo, que se genera y se concibe como una perdida con el paso del tiempo, así la percepción de la inversión en prevención de la seguridad es mal interpretada. Por lo expuesto anteriormente los hoteles particularmente tienden a evitar la misma. Pero sin lugar a dudas, podemos concluir que los ahorros iniciales se transforman en perdidas posteriores y en costos muy elevados debido a la improvisación y la necesidad latente de salir de la encrucijada al no prevenir adecuadamente el servicio.
