Juana Rosa Pita (La Habana, 1939) ha realizado toda su obra entre Washington donde co-fundó Ediciones Solar y se doctoró en Letras Hispánicas, Miami, New Orleans donde fue Profesora Visitante de Tulane University, y Boston, donde ahora reside. Su poesía "posee la virtud original de resucitar la emoción y transformarla en mito en ella misma" (Pablo Antonio Cuadra). Poética la suya "siempre vuelta a conciliar la fragilidad humana con el misterio de las cosas" (Pietro Civitareale). Ha publicado 22 títulos, entre ellos: Las cartas y las horas (Washington, 1977); Manual de magia (Barcelona, 1979); Viajes de Penélope (Miami, 1980), en edición bilingüe (Udine, 2007); Plaza sitiada (Costa Rica, 1987); Sorbos de luz/ Sips of Light (New Orleans, 1990); Florencia nuestra (Miami, 1992); Una estación en tren (Coral Gables, 1994, Premio de Poesía 'Letras de Oro' 1993; Tela de concierto (Miami, 1999); el volumen Cantar de isla (La Habana, 2003); Pensamiento del tiempo (Miami, 2005); y la plaquette "Nidos de soles" (Boston, 2008). Galardonada en Italia con dos premios internacionales: el VIII Ultimo Novecento de Pisa - 'Poetas en el mundo' (1985), y el II Alghero - 'La cultura por la paz' (1987); ambos por el conjunto de su obra poética; su poesía ha sido ampliamente estudiada, traducida a varias lenguas e incluida en antologías como New Directions in Prose and Poetry 49 (New York, 1985) en traducción de Donald. D. Walsh y Poesía cubana del siglo XX (FCE: México, 2002).
