Die Freunde des Expressionismus feiern Ernst Ludwig Kirchners Gemälde "Marzella" seit mehr als 100 Jahren als Meisterwerk. Die fromme und gebildete Marzella Sprentzel aber empfand es nach heftigen Vorwürfen ihrer prüden, erzkonservativen Familie als Schande, dass sie sich 1910 als 14 jähriges Mädchen nackt malen lie . Zur Schadensbegrenzung hatten ihre entsetzten Eltern die strengste Geheimhaltung der Affäre angeordnet. Die spätere Lehrerin Marzella litt lebenslang unter der Furcht, von einer skandalsüchtigen, von Doppelmoral geprägten Gesellschaft als Aktmodell von Kirchner, der als Mensch nicht den besten Ruf hatte, entdeckt zu werden. Die stolze Familienehre, insbesondere das Ansehen ihres geliebten Bruders Willibrord, der nach 1945 Propst der Dresdner Hofkirche wurde, schienen in Gefahr zu sein. Obwohl Marzella versuchte, die Malerei Episode im Laufe der Jahre zu verdrängen, wurde sie auch als reife Frau bei verschiedenen Anlässen immer wieder damit konfrontiert. Insbesondere beim emotionalen Wiedersehen mit der todkranken einstigen Freundin Fränzi, einem anderen Kindermodell der "Brücke" Künstler, wurde alles wieder aufgewühlt, auch Marzellas verborgene Gefühle für Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. War es damals mehr als pubertäre Schwärmerei? Vor allem aber erinnerte sie sich detailliert an die freizügige Atmosphäre im Atelier, die erotisch überladene Dekoration sowie den fragwürdigen sexuellen Umgang der Maler mit vielen Frauen. Gab es etwa auch Kindesmissbrauch? Hat sich Marzella verführen lassen? Waren die Vorhaltungen gegen sie also gerechtfertigt, oder hatte man ihr einen Schuldkomplex, der zu einer dauerhaften Psychose wurde, nur eingeredet?
