Dieses Buch richtet den inhaltlichen Fokus auf Logik, Mengenlehre, diskrete Strukturen und Wahrscheinlichkeitsrechnung und orientiert sich damit an den Empfehlungen von ACM und IEEE zur Mathematikausbildung im Software-Engineering-Studium.

Da man Mathematik - ebenso wie die Softwareentwicklung - nicht durch Lesen, sondern nur durch Tun erlernt, schlie t jeder Abschnitt mit einerReihe von Verst�ndnisfragen und �bungsaufgaben. Es eignet sich daher bestens zum Nacharbeiten einer Vorlesung und zur Pr�fungsvorbereitung. Durch den verst�ndlichen Schreibstil und die L�sungen auf der Webseite des Autors kann dieses Buch aber auch gut zum Selbststudium genutzt werden.

Stephan Dreiseitl studierte Mathematik und Informatik an österreichischen und amerikanischen Hochschulen. Nach seiner Promotion und einer kurzen Tätigkeit als Softwareentwickler forschte er an der Anwendung maschinellen Lernens in der biomedizinischen Datenanalyse und habilitierte anschließend im Fach Wissensbasierte Systeme. Sein Forschungsinteresse gilt weiterhin dem maschinellen Lernen, insbesondere den entscheidungsunterstützenden Systemen in der Biomedizin.

Seit 2000 arbeitet er hauptberuflich am Campus Hagenberg der FH Oberösterreich; dort hat er mehrere Preise für ausgezeichnete Lehre erhalten.
