Este documento, tiene como propósito, rescatar un campo del conocimiento poco atendido en nuestro país, la Historia de la Medicina del Trabajo. A pesar de que México posee una antigua tradición científica en el terreno de la Medicina, que se remonta hasta la época prehispánica, la historiografía reciente registra pocos estudios dedicados al desarrollo teórico y práctico de las ciencias de la salud en general y de la Medicina del Trabajo, en particular. La historia de la Medicina del Trabajo, es un instrumento útil para destacar una serie de concepciones erróneas, acerca de la trayectoria científica, seguida por nuestros médicos, la que en el mejor de los casos es ignorada y en el peor de ellos, negada. A partir de estas observaciones, consideré necesario recobrar la memoria histórica a fin de explicar la situación de la Medicina del Trabajo, en el pasado, en la actualidad y en una aproximación hacia el futuro. Con este objetivo, pretendo proporcionar un marco histórico concreto en el que se ubiquen los principales tramos que ha recorrido la Medicina del Trabajo, para considerarla profesional, tanto privada como institucional y el impacto social positivo, que ésta, ha tenido a través de las diferentes épocas de la Historia, pues no se puede concebir un país desarrollado, sin una POBLACIÓN TRABAJADORA SANA. En este libro, el lector, encontrará hechos sociales, fascinantes e interesantes que pasaron hace muchísimos años y es una pena que algunos se hayan distorsionado; por lo tanto, la Historia puede gustar o no, aburrir o fascinar, eso va en cada uno; pero lo que es indiscutible, es que hasta el momento, desde el punto de vista cultural, no se ha encontrado mejor guía para adentrarse en la complejidad de la existencia humana, que este arte inventado en los albores de la humanidad.
