Il titolo "Meteotopia" si riferisce non solo all'emergenza climatica in cui tutti viviamo, ma anche all'ingiustizia climatica che nasce come problema ambientale per includere sia una questione politica che morale. L'Antropocene (e da ultimo il suo fratello minore Capitalocene) colpisce ogni ecosistema planetario così come ogni essere vivente e, quindi, la Giustizia Climatica si configura come l'obbligo etico a creare un mondo più giusto ed equo a partire dalla tutela dei diritti umani, e in particolare, per quelle popolazioni che subiscono in modo più grave le conseguenze del cambiamento climatico, anche se non ne sono direttamente responsabili: tutte le culture emarginate, le generazioni future, gli animali e le piante viventi e in generale coloro che sono esclusi dalle discussioni politiche, dagli eventi del G20 e dalle speculazioni finanziarie.
Ecco perché CoFUTURES in collaborazione con Future Fiction, ha selezionato alcuni racconti di fantascienza dal sud del mondo per affrontare alcuni temi urgenti e questioni rilevanti, come l'abbandono dei combustibili fossili a favore di sistemi energetici più efficienti basati su risorse rinnovabili; la creazione di economie e città sostenibili nel lungo periodo, il rapporto tra scelte individuali e politiche comunitarie in relazione alle nuove tecnologie e stili di vita; una nuova etica per fare fronte all'imminente Era della decarbonizzazione e al passaggio a paradigmi più inclusivi; la riduzione degli sprechi, soprattutto nel nord del mondo, ma anche da parte delle élite del sud; la riparazione e il riutilizzo come modi corretti per evitare l'obsolescenza tecnologica, commerciale e della moda; la conservazione delle risorse ambientali basata sui diritti delle popolazioni indigene e il diritto democratico delle popolazioni alla sovranità sulle proprie risorse quali energia, foreste, terra e acqua; nuovi tipologie di governo, redistribuzione dei diritti e di ricchezza.
