Ein Gro teil der Migranten pflegt während der Abwesenheit einen intensiven Kontakt mit der Familie, Informationen und Gelder flie en zwischen den Ländern hin und her. Migranten sind nicht nur innerhalb eines Kontextes, sondern in verschiedenen 'Welten' präsent. Das hei t, sie agieren "transnational" (Glick Schiller/Basch/Blanc-Szanton 1992). Das Herkunftsland ist für sie genauso wichtig wie das Zielland, zumal viele Migranten nur temporär ihr Land verlassen, um nach einiger Zeit wieder zurückzukehren. Transnationale Migration hat somit nicht nur Auswirkungen auf das Land, das die Migranten empfängt, sondern auch auf das Land, das sie (zeitweise) verlassen. In der vorliegenden Arbeit steht daher das Herkunftsland der Migranten im Mittelpunkt und inwieweit eine Migration das Leben und die kulturellen Werte und Normen dieses beeinflusst und verändert - sowohl während der Abwesenheit der Migranten, also auch nach ihrer Rückkehr. Der Schwerpunkt liegt hierbei auf Südasien mit den Ländern Indien, Sri Lanka, Pakistan und Bangladesh.
