Vor diesem Hintergrund ist es interessant zu sehen, ob auch in der Moderne sein Werk noch zeitlos ist, d.h. von genereller Relevanz über den unmittelbaren historischen Kontext hinaus. Ein Konservativer wird sich nur schwerlich mit dem Gedanken an Kopftuch tragende Musliminnen an Schulen anfreunden können, während hingegen ein Liberaler darin wahrscheinlich kein Problem sieht. Ebenso differente Auffassungen gibt es zu vielen weiteren politisch relevanten Fragen; einige in letzter Zeit besonders diskutierte sind die Mohammed-Karikaturen, ein Rauchverbot sowie das Gesetz zur Vorratsdatenspeicherung. Aus diesem Grund sollen diese im letzten Abschnitt der Arbeit dahingehend analysiert werden, ob sich in ihrem Fall eine Verteidigung individueller Freiheit mit den Argumenten Mills legitimieren lässt. Wenn seine Freiheitskonzeption in ihrer Begründungsstruktur auf heutige als Gefährdung wahrgenommene Einschränkungen der Freiheit anwendbar ist, kann man von ihrer Aktualität sprechen. Vor diesem Hintergrund ergibt sich die in Zeitlosigkeit und Aktualität zweigeteilte Leitfrage der Arbeit, ob Mills Freiheitskonzeption eine zeitlos aktuelle Verteidigung individueller Freiheit darstellt. Bevor der Evaluation dieser Leitfrage nachgegangen wird, muss zunächst Mills Freiheitskonzeption zusammenfassend dargestellt werden. Darauf folgt ein Zwischenfazit bezüglich der Zeitlosigkeit von Mills Freiheitskonzeption, die in einem anschlie enden Punkt um die Paternalismus-Debatte ergänzt wird, um in einem ersten allgemeinen Anwendungsfeld bestimmte notwendige Modifikationen sein
