Dominique Laty is the author of numerous books on health and wellness. She has a special interest in women's history. Oracle, muse, patron of the arts, Misia Sert was ever-present in Parisian artistic and intellectual circles of the early twentieth century. She counted Gabrielle Chanel and Max Jacob among her friends; she posed for Renoir and Bonnard; she helped Serge Diaghilev as a patron. Misia Sert fell in love with, met, and helped some of the major artistic figures of the time. The narrative of her tumultuous life, which she spent in Paris and Venice, gives us a vivid picture of the early years of modernism. The book also paints a fascinating portrait of a modern woman who was ahead of her time. In tracing Misia Sert's life and her friendship with Coco Chanel, the author reveals a period of great effervescence and creativity, not only in literature, poetry and the arts but also in science (this was the time of Jean-Martin Charcot and the Curies). The French arts journal Revue Blanche provided an echo of the effervescence of the period and Misia was the image and symbol of that journal.This portrayal of a brilliant woman in the early twentieth-century artistic world, focuses on Misia's closest friends and companions: Coco Chanel, St phane Mallarm, Toulouse-Lautrec, Pablo Picasso, Max Jacob, Diaghilev and Radiguet.Two films about the period: Jan Kounen's Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky (French release date: 11 March 2009) depicts Misia Sert's epoch.
