Ma cosa c'era, al di là di ogni folcloristica banalizzazione dei mass media, dietro e dentro il mondo del porno italiano? Chi sono stati i pionieri - registi, produttori, attori, generici, tecnici, doppiatori - che alla fine degli anni '70, negli anni bui della crisi del cinema seguita alle stagioni dello spaghetti western, dello spaghetti horror, dei polpettoni mitologici e del poliziesco trucido, hanno trovato rifugio (protetti da fantasiosi pseudonimi) nello spaghetti porno? Chi muoveva il business?
Questo libro, uscito per la prima nel 1997 con il titolo di "Mona e le altre: vent'anni di cinema pornografico in Italia", qui in una nuova versione completamente aggiornata e ampliata, ha tracciato per la prima volta un profilo reale dell'hard core italiano. Gli autori, attraverso un lungo lavoro di ricerca, basato su documenti e decine di interviste con gli "addetti ai lavori", hanno ripercorso la storia di un genere considerato fin dal suo primo apparire un "non cinema", qualcosa di "altro" rispetto al cinema "normale", e che pure, in Italia (uno dei pochi Paesi europei a non avere una legge in materia di pornografia), ha raggiunto livelli di accettazione sociale senza paralleli
altrove. Basti pensare all'elezione in parlamento di Ilona Staller; in arte Cicciolina, alla popolarità acquisita da un personaggio come Moana Pozzi, alla presenza di Riccardo Schicchi, pigmalione storico di tante pornostelline, Jessica Rizzo o Selen tra gli ospiti di popolari trasmissioni televisive.
