Ein wesentlicher Teil von Mobilität ist die Teilnahme am Stra enverkehr; sei es durch den Gebrauch des eigenen PKWs, durch Nutzung eines Fahrrads, zu Fu oder die Nutzung der Angebote des öffentlichen Personennahverkehrs. Statistische Auswertungen zeigen, dass ältere Menschen zunehmend in Unfälle verwickelt sind. Die demografische Entwicklung spricht dafür, dass die Problematik der Verkehrseignung im Alter zunimmt. Auch wenn die Gesamtanzahl der Fälle nicht sehr gro ist, verbucht sie damit erhebliches menschliches Leid bei den Betroffenen (seien sie Verletzte oder Unfallfahrer).
