He was then awarded a postdoctoral research fellowship and a clinical fellowship in abdominal organ transplant by the University of Miami in 2001 and 2003, respectively. He holds a PhD in Gastrointestinal Surgery from the University of São Paulo (2015), and was an Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer at the same university (2016). He is currently a Professor of Surgery, Director of Solid Organ Transplant Services. Chief, Liver and Gastrointestinal Transplantation.
