Jenseits der traditionellen Zentrierung auf die Institution Schule haben au erschulische Lernarrangements im Aus- und Weiterbildungsbereich einen erheblichen Bedeutungszuwachs erfahren. Nachdem der seit Ende 2006 andauernde Hype um Second Life in den vergangenen Monaten abgeflaut ist und das "Tief der Ernüchterung" erreicht hat sprechen Second-Life-Gegner bereits vom baldigen Niedergang dieser virtuellen 3D-Plattform. Jenseits marketingorientierter Berichte und PR-wirksamen Darstellungen wird diese Arbeit Möglichkeiten für Bildung und E-Learning von Second Life in der Erwachsenenbildung beleuchten. Die zentrale Fragestellung der Arbeit sind die Möglichkeiten des Einsatzes virtueller 3D-Welten als Lernmedium allgemein und die von Second Life im speziellen. Dazu wird Second Life in die aktuelle Szene der virtuellen Welten eingeordnet und dargestellt, wie diese 3D-Welt in Aus- und Weiterbildung für Erwachsene genutzt wird bzw. werden kann. Folgende zentrale Fragestellungen sollen beantwortet werden: Wo sind die besonderen Potenziale für E-Learning mit Second Life? -Welche Form von Lehr/ Lernszenarien sind heute möglich und in Zukunft denkbar? -Welche Themenkomplexe lassen sich in Second Life gut umsetzen und welche eher nicht? -Welche Mehrwerte hat Second Life gegenüber herkömmlichen E-Learning-Szenarien? -Welche Chancen und Risiken hat Second Life als E-Learning-Medium? Grundsätzlich können die in dieser Arbeit dargestellten Antworten und Tendenzen auf diese einleitenden Fragen nur eine Momentaufnahme in einem sehr dynamischen Umfeld darstellen. Die Arbeit ist in dreizehn Kapitel aufgeteilt. Nach einleitendem Kapitel 1 werden die zentralen Begriffe "Bildung" (Kapitel 2), "E-Learning" (Kapitel 3) und "Virtuelle 3D-Welten" (Kapitel 4) eingeführt, definiert und beschrieben. Kapitel 5 befasst sich mit den Aspekten von "Lernen in virtuellen Welten" im Allgemeinen, Kapitel 6 führt Second Life als virtuelle 3D-Welt ein, ordnet diese in die Landschaft virtueller Welten ein,
