Bei der Erkennung einer Infektion mit T. vaginalis weisen die traditionellen, auf Mikroskopie basierenden Methoden oft eine geringe Sensitivit�t auf. In dieser Studie wurden ein auf einem Reagenztest zum Nachweis von Antigenen in Vaginalabstrichen basierendes Verfahren, die Echtzeit-PCR sowie der Latex-Agglutinationstest mit den Bouillon-Kulturmethoden verglichen, die als "Goldstandard" f�r die Diagnose der Trichomoniasis gelten. Insgesamt wurden 297 weibliche Patientinnen im Alter zwischen 18 und 50 Jahren, die das Bashier Hospital aufsuchten, in die vorliegende Studie aufgenommen. Bei allen Patientinnen lag eine bekannte T. vaginalis-Infektion vor. Demografische und klinische Daten wurden f�r statistische Auswertungen anhand eines vorab entworfenen Fragebogens von jeder Patientin erhoben. Von jeder Patientin wurden insgesamt f�nf Vaginalabstriche entnommen, um die Sensitivit�t der Echtzeit-Polymerasekettenreaktion, des Latexagglutinationstests, der mikroskopischen Untersuchung und verschiedener Kulturtechniken f�r die Diagnose von T. vaginalis zu bewerten. Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass der Nachweis des Antigens im Vaginalabstrich mittels Echtzeit-PCR und Latexagglutinationstest bei der Diagnose einer T. vaginalis-Infektion effektiver war als die mikroskopische Untersuchung und Kulturtechniken.
