Folgend soll auch die Messung der Fertilität erklärt und im Zusammenhang mit der Heirat erläutert werden. Anschlie end wird erläutert, wie die Fertilität in Industrie- und Entwicklungsländern variiert und welche regionalen Unterschiede auftreten. Zuletzt sollen die beiden Phänomene der Fertilität und der Mortalität mit dem Fokus auf Deutschland erarbeitet werden. Diese sollen von der jüngeren Entwicklung aus, über den Baby-Boom der Nachkriegszeit, die Kinderlosigkeit bis zur Entwicklung der zukünftigen Lebenserwartung der Bundesrepublik betrachtet werden. Die Bevölkerungsentwicklung ist in der Literatur gerade seit Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts ein viel diskutiertes Thema weltweit. Das häufig erwähnte Schlagwort Demographischer Wandel ist ein Phänomen, welches nicht nur in Deutschland, sondern auch in den meisten anderen Industrieländern zu verzeichnen ist. Besonders in Japan und fast allen Staaten Europas ist dies der Fall. Demographische Entwicklungen resultieren über lange Zeiträume. Die natürliche Bevölkerungsbewegung wird durch die zwei wesentlichen Komponenten Fertilität (Fruchtbarkeit) und Mortalität (Sterblichkeit) definiert.
