Zeitarbeit ist dabei keine Modeerscheinung, in Deutschland existiert diese Beschäftigungsform in ihrer jetzigen Ausprägung bereits seit den 1960er Jahren. Durch verschiedene Deregulierungsma nahmen des Gesetzgebers ist die Zeitarbeit seit dem 01.01.2004 an keine zeitlichen Restriktionen mehr gebunden. Aus diesem Grund und weil die Nachfrage nach flexiblen Arbeitnehmern durch die Unternehmen stets angestiegen ist, legte sie bis Mitte/Ende 2008 ein rasantes Wachstum hin. Während der globalen Finanz- und Wirtschaftskrise der Jahre 2008 und 2009 hat allerdings im Besonderen der Zeitarbeitssektor einen spürbaren Rückgang der Auftrags- und Ertragslage zu verzeichnen gehabt. Zeitarbeit wird nicht nur als effizientes Instrument zur Problemlösung bei Personalengpässen von Unternehmen eingesetzt, sondern wurde auch als arbeitsmarktpolitisches Instrument zur Schaffung von Arbeitsplätzen von der Politik erkannt. Mitte 2010 waren schon wieder über zwei Prozent aller sozialversicherungspflichtigen Beschäftigungsverhältnisse in Deutschland im Zeitarbeitssektor angesiedelt. Zeitarbeit wird von den Bewerbern oft als Sprungbrett in ein festes, bzw. unbefristetes Arbeitsverhältnis gewählt. Es gibt sogar empirische Befunde, dass Zeitarbeit als berufliche und betriebliche Aufstiegsleiter genutzt werden kann. Dennoch ist diese Beschäftigungsform oftmals mit einem negativen Beigeschmack behaftet. Das hei t im Zusammenhang mit dem Begriff "Zeitarbeit" kommen bei vielen Menschen negative Assoziationen auf.
