Este livro apresenta a ideia do autor de aumentar a efici�ncia da combust�o dos motores diesel com algumas modifica��es no motor e no sistema de escape. Sabe-se que a combust�o num motor de combust�o interna s� ser� boa se queimar combust�vel e ar, numa determinada rela��o ar/combust�vel (aprox. 14,7:1), sem mistura de gases de escape do ciclo anterior. Atrav�s do EGR, o sistema atual perturba efetivamente esta rela��o de combust�o e apenas aumenta o n�mero de part�culas que entopem o DPF ainda mais rapidamente. A principal inova��o � a elimina��o da v�lvula EGR no sistema de escape, cuja fun��o era reduzir as emiss�es de NOx nos motores diesel, porque o retorno de uma parte dos gases de escape diminui a temperatura de combust�o no motor. Uma temperatura de combust�o mais baixa significa uma redu��o das emiss�es de NOx do motor de combust�o interna. A segunda altera��o consiste em reduzir a taxa de compress�o dos actuais 16-19, mais comuns, para 15, 14 ou 13. Esta altera��o tamb�m resulta numa temperatura mais baixa no final do curso de compress�o e, por conseguinte, numa temperatura de combust�o final mais baixa no motor de combust�o interna, com uma redu��o da quantidade de combust�vel injetado por ciclo.
