About The Author

Susan Plate Weimer I was born in 1942 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I got a small taste of farm life, but my family lived in a small town in east central Wisconsin. I knew the moment I was born that I was going to be a school teacher. This led to a B.A. Degree in Elementary Education and English in 1962. In my classroom, I would create newsletters with the children's work and include all kinds of clip art in the newsletters. My motto was: "There is nothing that should be undecorated." During my tenure as an elementary school teacher, I became fascinated with the world of books and their relation to a well-rounded education. I pursued a Master's Degree in Library Science and achieved that goal in 1974. So, in 1974, I took a job at Appalachian State University as an Assistant Professor of Library Science. Then, in 1978, I moved to Greensboro, NC where I have been living for the past 40 years. During those years I managed the library at a Middle School, took courses in education, history, and electronics. I taught computer skills at a local High School and ended my teaching career at a local college teaching remedial English grammar. In 1990, I married my wonderful husband, Calvin Weimer. How he puts up with me is beyond any rational thinking. During that time I joined the Piedmont Bird Club and became an active member eventually serving as the President. So, now what to do after retirement? Take a hobby and make it become something. At first, I started with paper objects - cards, decorating boxes, and letter heads. I determined that this was not for me even though I did enjoy it. Then came 2012 - I found a Better Homes and Garden Christmas book with a pattern for a small reindeer. It took a while to prefect the stitching and the placement of the pattern parts. The reindeer were too cute and I found that I could sell them. The results were satisfying and now all of the animals are stitched by hand. I actually do not own a sewing machine. Itty Bitty Animals became a new venture for me leading me into the world of crafts with prize winning entries in Silver Arts. In turn, I became involved with the Greensboro Senior Art Guild as the Chair.
