Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Im Rahmen der Globalisierung (Internationalisierung) fand in den letzten Jahren eine rasante Entwicklung und Verbreitung moderner Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien (IKT) statt und trieb den Globalisierungsprozess noch weiterhin an. Nationale Märkte wurden so praktisch über Nacht zu globalen Märkten, der schnelle Austausch von Informationen zum entscheidenden Wettbewerbsvorteil. Gleichzeitig bedeuten der Globalisierungsprozess als auch die steigende Verbreitung von IKT einen Anstieg interkultureller Kontakte mit Menschen aus verschiedensten Nationen. Interkulturelle Zusammenarbeit findet so heute mehr denn je auf der Basis moderner IKT statt. Dabei bilden sich virtuelle Teams, die über nationale Grenzen hinweg Informationen austauschen, Projekte ausarbeiten, planen und realisieren. Die Zusammenarbeit findet dabei nicht zwangsweise zur gleichen Zeit oder am gleichen Ort statt. Groupware, CSCW (computer supported cooperative work) bezeichnen IKT-basierte Konzepte, die Teamarbeit fördern und erleichtern sollen. Da Groupware zunehmend in einem interkulturellen Kontext eingesetzt wird, ist auch die Zusammensetzung von Teams häufig auch multikultureller Natur. Groupware bietet dabei verschiedene Funktionalitäten (Email, Gruppenkalender, Videokonferenzen, Diskussionsforen etc.), die mitunter von den Kommunikationspräferenzen der Teammitglieder abweichen können. So mag beispielsweise Email in Kultur A als zu unpersönlich aufgefasst werden, ein Nichtmuttersprachler mag bei einer laufenden Videokonferenz gehemmt sein, seine Überlegungen vorzubringen etc. Gang der Untersuchung: Nach einem Überblick über die gegenwärtige Unternehmenssituation im Umfeld einer zunehmenden Globalisierung, in dem zunehmend Groupware zur Förderung internationaler Zusammenarbeit eingesetzt wird, wird Groupware mit verschiedenen bereitgestellten Funktionalitäten vorgestellt.
