Er studierte in Leipzig und Dresden Musik, war Lehrer für Klavier und Musiktheorie in Karlsruhe am Konservatorium und ist Verfasser mehrerer Bücher der Musiktheorie. Als Komponist schuf er etwa 30 Werke für Klavier, Geige und Klarinette.
