Ein solches Niveau sollte innerhalb eines Zeitraums erreicht werden, der ausreicht, damit sich die Ökosysteme auf natürliche Weise den Klimaänderungen anpassen können, die Nahrungsmittelerzeugung nicht bedroht wird und die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung auf nachhaltige Weise fortgeführt werden kann." Dem Abkommen folgte 1997 das Kyotoprotokoll. Und mit ihm erste konkrete Ma nahmen zur Reduktion des CO2-Aussto es in die Atmosphäre. Dieses, in ihrem Ziel notwendige aber ihrer Wirkung umstrittene Ma nahmenpaket, bedarf einer Fortsetzung nach 2012. Die Klimakonferenz in Posen sollte ein Folgeabkommen vorbereiten. Wie gesagt, sollte. Denn die Urteile der Medien lassen nur eines erkennen: Es gibt schöne Worte, aber wenig Konkretes. So bleibt die Feststellung: Die "Klimakonferenz endet ernüchternd" (SZ-online: 13.12.2008). Und da erscheint auch die Aussage Hermann Scheers, dass die Weltklimakonferenzen den "anhaltenden Weltkrieg gegen die Natur" nicht beenden konnten, (Scheer 2002: 6) aktueller denn je.
