In kaum einer anderen Region der Erde wird der nachhaltige Tourismus so gro geschrieben wie in Skandinavien. Gleichzeitig erntet Skandinavien auch Lob für seine fortschrittliche und grö tenteils individuelle Politik und Reformen im ländlichen Bereich und die Strukturen werden vielerorts kopiert. Vorweg muss jedoch dieser Raum definiert und eingegrenzt werden. Je nachdem welcher Aspekt in Betracht gezogen wird, stö t man auf verschiedene Definitionsansätze für den skandinavischen Raum. So werden beispielsweise zum einen nur die Länder Schweden, Norwegen und teilweise Finnland als Skandinavien gezählt, da sie das skandinavische Festland ausmachen und die geographische Lage ausschlaggebend ist. Liegt das Hauptaugenmerk jedoch auf Sprache und Kultur wird Finnland durch Dänemark ersetzt. "Skandinavien [...], bezeichnet im engeren Sinn die auf der Skandinavischen Halbinsel liegenden beiden Länder Norwegen und Schweden. Je nachdem, welche Kriterien zur Abgrenzung von Skandinavien herangezogen werden (zum Beispiel Sprache oder Kultur), werden auch Dänemark und Finnland zu Skandinavien gezählt". Im Folgenden begrenzt sich der untersuchte Raum auf die Länder Norwegen, Schweden und Finnland, dem skandinavischen Festland.
