About The Book

From the disciplined ranks of the Army Medical Corps to the specialized wards of the Central Institute of Psychiatry, Major (Dr) Tapas Kumar Aich has spent a lifetime observing the human condition. In this third installment of the Memoir of a Psychiatrist series, Dr. Aich takes us across the border to the Universal College of Medical Sciences (UCMS) in Bhairahawa, Nepal.

In 2001, Dr. Aich arrived in Bhairahawa with a vision: to build a center for mental health where none existed. Over the next twelve years, he acted as a pioneer, establishing the Department of Psychiatry from the ground up and eventually initiating its first MD postgraduate course in 2009.

Nepal Diaries is an intimate look at those transformative years-a collection of brief stories and reflections originally shared as popular social media vignettes. Moving beyond the clinical and the academic, these stories capture the heart of life in Nepal: the challenges, the triumphs, and the unique clinical encounters that shaped both a doctor and a department. Published to coincide with the department's Silver Jubilee, this memoir is a celebration of a decade-long labor of love and a professional odyssey at the crossroads of cultures.
