The book, New Perspectives on American Literature presents a scholarly study of American Literature right from the beginning to the present time. It includes discussions on American Women’s Drama, American Fiction and Recent American Poetry by eminent scholars of Russia, Spain and Finland. Besides these, there are highly scholarly studies of Toni Morrison, Saul Bellow, John Updike, John A. Williams, James Baldwin, Katherine Anne Porter, Mark Strand and Richard Wright by the eminent scholars from the North to the South of India. The book would be useful for both the teachers and the students of American Literature.

Ishteyaque Shams did his M.A. in English securing first position in first class and Ph.D. from B.R.A. Bihar University, Muzaffarpur. He also holds P.G. degrees in Hindi, Urdu, History and Political Science and B.Ed., LL.B. and PGDTE (Hyderabad). He has also studied Arabic, Sanskrit, French and Russian Languages. Dr. Shams’s articles have appeared in various reputed journals and anthologies and he has got the honour of presenting his critical papers in two International Conferences besides many National Seminars. He is associated with several Literary forums and was awarded Teacher Study Grants from Indo-American Centre for International Studies, Hyderabad twice. At present, he teaches English in R.L.S.Y. College, Bettiah, a constituent unit of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University. He is also engaged in supervising research works on Arun Joshi and Saul Bellow and has an MRP sanctioned by UGC on Comparative Literature. He has authored a book entitled The Novels of Ernest Hemingway : A Critical Study.
