Bereits bei der Abfassung meines Buches "Metallische Dberziige"l) faBte ich den EntschluB, in gleicher Weise wie dieses Gebiet auch die nichtmetallischen Dberziige auf Metallen zu behandeln. In diesem EntschluB wurde ich noch durch mehrere Besprechungen meines Buches "Metallische Dberziige" verstarkt, in denen direkt der Wunsch nach einem Werke iiber die "Nichtmetallischen Dberziige" aus meiner Feder geauBert wurde. Auch aus der Praxis wurde mir mehrfach dieses Verlangen zugetragen. Ich hoffe daher, mit dem vorliegenden Werke einem Wunsche der Praxis Rechnung getragen zu haben. Die "Nichtmetallischen Dberziige" stellen ebenso wie die metallischen und organi- schen Dberziige ein sehr wirksames Mittel zur Erhohung der Bestandigkeit unserer metallischen Werkstoffe dar, die sich bereits eine sichere Position in der OberfHichen- technik errullgen haben. Bei vielen nichtmetallischen Dberziigen, wie z. B. bei den Metallfarbungen, handelt es sich auch um rein dekorative Wirkungen, die sich mit anderen Mitteln gar lliicht erreichen lassen. Bei der Phosphatierung spielt neben dem Korrosionsschutz auch die Erleichterung der spanlosen Verformung und die Vermin- derung der gleitendell Reibung, bei der Eloxierung die leichte Anfarbbarkeit und Impragnierbarkeit der erzeugten Oxydschicht eine groBe Rolle. Die anorganischen nichtmetallischen Dberziige haben daher in der Technik eine sehr ausgedehnte und vielseitige Alliwendung gefunden, die fiir die Praxis von groBter Wichtigkeit ist.
