Michael D. Rosenthal is known internationally for his contributions to reducing the threats of nuclear proliferation and nuclear terrorism and to promoting a strong international safeguards system. He has worked in the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency, the U.S. Department of State, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office in the Department of Homeland Security. He has represented the United States Government and led U.S. delegations in numerous bilateral and multilateral consultations and at the IAEA, at NPT Review Conferences, and in the Nuclear Suppliers Group. In May 2014, the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon, advised the UN Security Council that Dr. Rosenthal had been selected to be one of the nine members of the Group of Experts tasked with advising the United Nations Security Council Committee established pursuant to Resolution 1540. His scientific and technical expertise complements his diplomatic experience. Together, they promote optimal solutions to complex nuclear non-proliferation problems.
