Numbers: Their Occult Power and Mystic Virtues by William Wynn Westcott explores the symbolic and mystical significance of numbers across various ancient cultures and esoteric traditions. Westcott, a noted scholar of occultism and co-founder of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, examines the Pythagorean, Kabbalistic, and astrological perspectives on numbers, attributing spiritual meanings and hidden powers to each. This work delves into numerology's role in divination, the metaphysical properties associated with numbers, and their influence in the natural and spiritual realms. It remains a foundational text for those interested in the occult dimensions of numerology.

William Wynn Westcott (1848–1925) was an English coroner, Freemason, ceremonial magician, and scholar of occultism. He was a prominent figure in the Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia (SRIA), where he became Supreme Magus, and in 1887 co-founded the influential Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn with Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers and William Robert Woodman. A student of Kabbalah and theosophy, Westcott authored works on esoteric topics, including Sepher Yetzirah and The Isiac Tablet of Cardinal Bembo. He distanced himself from public association with the Golden Dawn due to professional pressures but continued leading esoteric societies until his emigration to South Africa in 1918.
