She walked into her kitchen one morning and announced to her husband, "I'm dying." She didn't know why she said it; she just knew it was true. Two months later, she celebrated her sixtieth birthday with a five-hour dose of chemotherapy followed by a thoracic radiation chaser to treat her small cell lung cancer-the very same disease that had taken her mother four years earlier. With an unblinking eye and irrepressible humor, the author chronicles cancer in real time from diagnosis to treatment and the maybe, but never for sure, prognosis. Coupling a regimen of Reiki and exercise with a fuggedaboutit philosophy, the author finds a way to get in front of a disease with a meager twenty percent survival rate. Now, three years later, she shares her funny and poignant story- and those of her four cherished supporters-with cancer patients, partners and caregivers.

About The Author

Phyllis Johnston began her writing career as editor of Mrs. Demby's second grade class newspaper. After taking a shot at journalism, she began a 30-year career as a strategic communications consultant, specializing in ballot question campaign management. Luckily, she got the opportunity to spend a year in London and took to writing a daily diary that morphed into her first ebook Sufferin' London. "Flat Follies," an excerpt from the memoir, was selected for inclusion in the anthology A Matter of Choice published by Seal Press. Her second ebook, Murder by Choice-A Sister Sleuth Adventure-was co-written by her Tier One friend Joanne Sandler. A Boston native, Phyllis now lives in Sarasota, Florida with her husband Ben and their dog Jake.
