Medicinal plants produce a huge range of specialized metabolites (or phytochemicals) with bioactive properties often in response to environmental cues or stresses. Some of these molecules have the potential to be exploited as pharmaceuticals. Omics-driven Research in Medicinal Plants explores the transformative role of omics technologies - genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and epigenomics - in unlocking the therapeutic potential of medicinal plants. These technologies offer powerful tools for understanding and controlling the genetic and biological aspects of medicinal plants. Its scope spans foundational omics principles, multi-omics integration, precision breeding, metabolic engineering, and emerging frontiers such as AI-driven drug design and CRISPR-omics. By emphasizing sustainability, the book addresses climate-resilient cultivation, ethical bioprospecting, and conservation strategies, while advancing applications in drug discovery, functional foods, and ethnopharmacology. Researchers in medicinal plants, plant biotechnology, pharmacognosy, and systems biology, as well as policymakers and industry practitioners, will find this of value.

Gong, Qihai: - Prof. Gong Qihai, male, doctor of medicine, second-level professor, doctoral supervisor, expert in Guizhou Province, expert with a special allowance from the State Council, and director of the Chinese Pharmacological Society. He is currently a member of the Party Committee and president of Zunyi Medical University, China and the leader of the innovation team of the Ministry of Education (including "rolling" support). His main research direction is the neuropharmacology and toxicology of traditional Chinese medicine. He has presided over more than 20 projects or projects, such as the Key Special Project of the National Key R&D Program "Modernization Research of Traditional Chinese Medicine" the National Natural Science Foundation, and the Ministry of Education. He has obtained five national invention patents and published more than 200 papers at home and abroad, of which more than 100 have been included in the SCI. He won the first prize for provincial scientific and technological progress and the first prize for provincial graduate teaching achievements. He was selected for the New Century Excellent Talent Support Program of the Ministry of Education, the Excellent Young Science and Technology Talent of Guizhou Province, and the "Hundred"-level Talent of High-level Innovative People in Guizhou Province. He is an editorial board member of "Pharmacology and Clinical Practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine" and "Journal of Chinese New Drugs and Clinical Practice" and was selected by world's top 2% scientists in the field of pharmacy.

Jain, Archana: - Dr. Archana Jain is a distinguished post-doctoral researcher contributing significantly to the field of pharmacology at Zunyi Medical University (ZMU) in China. She is affiliated with the university's prestigious Key Laboratory of Basic Pharmacology and the Joint International Research Laboratory of Ethnomedicine of the Ministry of Education, hubs known for cutting-edge research in drug discovery and traditional medicine. Dr. Jain completed her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education at Mansarovar Global University (MGU) in Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, India, in 2023. With her diverse educational background and research interests in education and microbiology, Dr. Jain's research is primarily focused on the pharmacological and phytochemical investigation of natural products, with a special emphasis on exploring the therapeutic potential of medicinal plants. Her work often bridges traditional knowledge and modern scientific validation. This research is evidenced by a substantial body of publications in reputable, high-impact international journals. Her scholarly output, as seen on platforms like Google Scholar, includes numerous articles where she often appears as a leading author. Through her dedicated work at Zunyi Medical University, Dr. Archana Jain has established herself as a valuable member of an international research team, actively advancing our understanding of ethnomedicine and contributing to the global pursuit of safer and more effective treatments derived from natural sources.

Sarsaiya, Surendra: - Dr. Surendra Sarsaiya is a distinguished professor and researcher in the field of microbiology, whose work stands at the compelling intersection of microbial ecology, natural product discovery, and sustainable bioresource utilization. He is currently a prominent researcher and investigator at the Zunyi Medical University in Zunyi City, China, where he holds a triple affiliation with three of the institution's most prestigious centers: the Key Laboratory of Basic Pharmacology, the Joint International Research Laboratory of Ethnomedicine of the Ministry of Education, and the Bioresource Institute for Healthy Utilization (BIHU). This unique positioning underscores his multidisciplinary approach, leveraging microbiological expertise to advance pharmacological and ethnomedical research. Dr. Sarsaiya primary research focus lies in harnessing the power of microorganisms, particularly endophytic fungi, for the discovery of novel bioactive compounds. His work delves into the intricate relationships between microbes and medicinal plants, exploring how these symbionts produce therapeutic metabolites with potential applications as anticancer, antimicrobial, and antioxidant agents. He possesses extensive expertise in the isolation, identification, and fermentation of microbes, followed by the sophisticated extraction, purification, and structural elucidation of their secondary metabolites. This research is critical for developing new compounds for the pharmaceutical industry. His scholarly contributions are substantial, evidenced by a robust publication record in high-impact, international peer-reviewed journals, where his research articles provide significant insights into the microbial synthesis of valuable compounds and the sustainable exploitation of bioresources. Through his dedicated work at Zunyi Medical University, Dr. Sarsaiya has established himself as a key figure in an international research community, passionately committed to unlocking the hidden potential of microbes for plant health and the healthy utilization of our planet's biological wealth.
