Operation Nimrod is the true story of the six days that brought Britain to a standstill-and the 17 minutes that made the SAS a legend.

On 30 April 1980, six gunmen burst into the Iranian Embassy at Prince's Gate, London, taking twenty-six hostages and issuing demands the government could not meet. Outside, the Metropolitan Police seal off South Kensington and negotiators begin the slow, deliberate work of buying time. Inside, ordinary people-diplomats, staff, visitors-are forced into a new reality of fear, bargaining, and small acts of courage.

And among them is one man the terrorists have underestimated: Police Constable Trevor Lock, carrying something they haven't found.

While the siege plays out under the glare of cameras and growing crowds, a second drama unfolds in the shadows. In Hereford, the SAS's Counter-Revolutionary Warfare wing-men trained for this nightmare since the lessons of Munich-prepare in silence. Weapons are checked. Ropes are measured. Entry points are rehearsed until perfection feels like superstition. A hard line forms inside government: there will be no safe exit.
