About The Book

In den letzten drei J ahrzehnten hat sich ein Wissensgebiet neu entwickelt, das im anglo-amerikanischen Sprachgebrauch als "Operations Research", in der wenig gliicklichen deutschen Ubersetzung als "Unternehmensforschung" bezeich- net wird. Dieses Wissensgebiet beschiiftigt sich damit, fiir groBere und kom- plexere Aufgaben dieser Art, Losungen und wenn moglich, geschlossene opti- male Losungen aufzusuchen. Das Wissensgebiet ist im zweiten Weltkrieg zur Losung strategischer und tak- tischer Probleme in England in Angriff genom men worden, woher auch noch die ihm im englischen Sprachraum verbliebene Bezeichnung herriihrt. Hierzu wur- den Wissenschaftler verschiedener Disziplinen zusammengefaBt, urn eine op- timale Nutzung aller verfiigbaren Hilfsmittel der Kriegsfiihrung sicherzustellen. Nach dem Kriege drang wiederum, zuerst rascher in England, dann aber auch etwa ab 1950 in den Vereinigten Staat en von Amerika Operations Research in die Wirtschaft, vereinzelt auch in die Verwaltung ein und wird ab Beginn der Sech- ziger Jahre auch in Europa gepflegt. Die Entwicklung wirtschaftlicher Unternehmungen seit dem Beginn der Industria- lisierung hat infolge der Sachzwiinge der wachsenden UnternehmensgroBe zu ei- ner Aufspaltung der Tiitigkeit des Einzelunternehmers in zahlreiche Funktionen gefiihrt, die nunmehr von einer Person nicht mehr allein beherrscht und erle- digt werden konnen. Damit wurden in GroBunternehmen mehr und mehr zusiitz- liche Personen in leitende und entscheidende Funktionen hineingenommen, die Teilaufgaben selbststiindig zu losen hatten, wiihrend der Unternehmensspitze nur noch eine Koordinationsaufgabe verblieb. Das Beispiel der Lagerhaltung in ei- nem giiterproduzierenden Betrieb moge dies erliiutern.
