Turun yliopistossa suoritettujen perustutkintojen jälkeen sain töitä opettajana Paraisilta kahdeksi vuodeksi. Koska työt loppuivat, niin oli suunnattava kurssi Ruotsiin, jossa siihen aikaan oli runsaasti kotikielen opettajan virkoja haettavana. Heräsin uuteen todellisuuteen Eskilstunassa. Kuljeskelin pitkin käytäviä viikkoja, ennen kuin pääsin vähitellen työn alkuun. Yksinäisyyttä ja tyhjyyttä korosti sekin, että olin ainut suomenkielinen opettaja Skogstorpin rehtorialueella. Taakkaa lisäsi se, että jouduin opettajaksi neljälle koululle. Oli vähän vaikea organisoida työtä, koska minulla ei ollut omaa autoa. Jouduin turvautumaan toisten apuun ja pyörään. Aika nopeasti kohtasin ruotsalaisen rasismin. Paitsi suomen kielen heikko asema niin jouduin suoranaisen terrorin kohteeksi. Pyöräni varastettiin usein siitä huolimatta, että se oli sisätiloissa. Samoin kuulin jatkuvasti finnjävel-huutoja ja huutoja, mitä sinä täällä teet. Koulu ei tehnyt mitään. Ei edes puhutellut oppilaita. Välillä kävin Suomessa auskultoimassa valmistautuakseni päteväksi opettajaksi. Samalla etsin töitä Suomesta, mutta niitä ei löytynyt. Ei auttanut muu kuin palata Ruotsiin. Tällä kerralla valitsin Upplands- Bron. Oletin maaseudulla olevan rauhallisia lapsia, mutta siellä vasta menoa ja meteliä riitti. Kahden vuoden päästä onnistuin saamaan töitä Tukholman Tenstasta luokanopettajana. Se olikin parasta aikaa lähes 10 vuoden Ruotsissa oleskelun aikana. Järingen koulun oppilaista ja opettajista noin puolet oli suomenkielisiä. Jouduin kuitenkin sieltä sitten jatkamaan Tenstan Kämpingen yläasteen opettajaksi ja seuraamaan oppilaitani sinne Järingestä. Olin ollut mukana taistelussa saada suomenkielistä opetusta myös yläasteella. Kämpingen koulu oli täysin siirtolaisvaltainen. Siellä opiskeli yli sataa kansallisuutta ja opetettiin noin 60 kotikieltä. Jouduin kuitenkin erimielisyyksiin rehtorin kanssa moittiessani koulun huonoa kuria ja järjestystä.
