Er ist in aller Munde und es wird von einer vernetzten Welt, gar von einer Netzwerkgesellschaft, gesprochen. Allein terminologisch lässt sich dieser Sachverhalt schon mit Leichtigkeit verdeutlichen: so ist bspw. von Unternehmensnetzwerken, Finanznetzwerken, ja sogar Terrornetzwerken oder Verbrecherorganisationen (Mafia), die sich in Netzwerken organisieren, die Rede. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist, die Ursachen für diese Beliebtheit und Bedeutung von Netzwerkanalysen herauszuarbeiten. Hierbei spielt insbesondere die Analyse zur Entstehung von Netzwerken eine entscheidende Rolle. Um die hohe Bedeutung des Netzbegriffs nachvollziehen zu können, werden zu Beginn der vorliegenden Arbeit die Makrotrends mit ihren Auswirkungen vorgestellt. Im weiteren Verlauf wird in Kapitel 3 das Netzwerk an sich thematisiert. Es wird den Fragen nachgegangen, was ein Netzwerk eigentlich ist und woraus es besteht. Um die Netzwerkanalyse besser einordnen zu können, werden in dem 4. Kapitel ihre historischen Wurzeln vorgestellt, um dann im darauffolgenden Kapitel die Netzwerkanalyse selbst näher zu beleuchten. Schwerpunkte bilden hier neben der Erhebung auch verschiedene Darstellungsformen und unterschiedliche Analysemethoden.
