Este trabalho analisa os fatores que influenciam a escolha do curso e a satisfa��o pessoal dos estudantes do 1. ano universit�rio; trata-se de um estudo descritivo que adota uma abordagem quantitativa. Para tal, foram recolhidos dados junto de 50 estudantes do 1. ano de Licenciatura de duas �reas de estudo (Antropologia-Sociologia e Psicologia) da Faculdade de Etnologia da Universidade Estadual do Haiti, atrav�s de question�rios de investiga��o e observa��o sistem�tica. Estes dados foram submetidos a um tratamento estat�stico descritivo. A Teoria da Autodetermina��o (Deci & Ryan, 1985) serviu-nos de refer�ncia neste trabalho. Os dados da investiga��o demonstraram que os estudantes se informaram sobre as suas escolhas de estudos; sentem-se confort�veis e adaptam-se de forma positiva; atribuem grande import�ncia ao seu sucesso acad�mico; dominam de forma superior os conceitos ensinados e apresentam desempenhos acad�micos not�veis. Os inquiridos est�o satisfeitos com as suas escolhas de estudos.
