Jahrhunderts erhält das Thema der F+E eine zentrale Bedeutung für die in Zukunft wettbewerbsfähigen Volkswirtschaften der Erde. Besonders in Deutschland gewinnt die Erforschung neuen Grundlagenwissens und die Umsetzung in marktfähige Produkte eine Schlüsselrolle. Die Defizite in gro technischen (Low Tech) Verfahren, die durch ein hohes Lohnniveau und andere Faktoren hohe Kosten generieren, können in unserer Wirtschaft nur durch den schöpferischen Geist der Menschen egalisiert werden. Durch die Produktion neuen Wissens und dessen schnelle Umsetzung kann sich unser Land den entscheidenden Zeit-und-Know-how-Vorteil gegenüber weltweiten Konkurrenten sichern und somit langfristig wettbewerbsfähig bleiben. Was liegt näher als diesen immanent wichtigen Prozess der Wissensgewinnung und Verwertung auf seine ökonomischen Aspekte und optimalen Ausprägungen zu untersuchen. Beginnend mit der Beschreibung der F+E- Ziele in U und Wettbewerbsumfeld werden anschlie end die Möglichkeiten der Auslagerung dieser Aktivitäten in einem breiten Kontinuum von Gestaltungsformen diskutiert (Abb. 2). Des Weiteren wird auf Kosten und Managementhintergründe des OS-Prozesses eingegangen, bei dem eine optimale Effizienz der Kostenreduktion, aber auch der Beherrschungs-und Durchgriffsmöglichkeiten in Unternehmen "beleuchtet" wird. Abschlie end soll die vertragliche Gestaltung konkreter F+E-Outsourcing-Projekte dargestellt werden, wobei in diesem Kontext besonders die Prinzip-Agent-Problematik in den Fokus rückt. Grundlegend bewegt sich die Outsourcing-Entscheidung in einem komplexen Spannungsfeld der optimalen Balance zwischen Nutzung der Spezialisierungsmöglichkeiten von Zulieferern und den Synergieeffekten einer integrierten Produktion
