Sie lässt sich in zwei Teile gliedern. Im ersten Abschnitt, dem theoretischen Teil, soll es darum gehen, ein Grundverständnis zu schaffen, indem zunächst verschiedene Begriffe der Logistik voneinander abgegrenzt werden. Im Anschluss daran wird der Begriff Outsourcing gesondert erläutert, da sich in der zugrundeliegenden Arbeit mit einer Mischform, dem sogenannten Logistik-Outsourcing, beschäftigt wird. Der zweite Teil der Arbeit beinhaltet die empirische Untersuchung. In der zugrundeliegenden Abhandlung wird ein Abgleich zwischen Theorie und Praxis vorgenommen und sich mit der Forschungsfrage "Welche Faktoren führen zu einer Outsourcing-Entscheidung von Logistikdienstleistungen bei einem auslagernden Unternehmen?" auseinandergesetzt. In den letzten Jahren hat sich aufgrund des zunehmenden Wettbewerbs, nicht nur auf internationaler, sondern auch auf globaler Ebene, eine rasante Veränderung der wirtschaftlichen Lage, zwischen den Unternehmen, vollzogen. Um konkurrenzfähig zu bleiben, ist es wichtig, dass die bisher angewandten Praktiken dahingehend analysiert werden, wo ihre Potenziale und Schwächen liegen, um auf dieser Basis eine geeignete Strategie für Weiter- bzw. Neuentwicklungen zu generieren. Da die Preise durch die Unternehmen immer weniger aktiv gestaltbar sind, liegt ein besonderer Fokus dieses Wandels auf der Beeinflussung der unternehmenseigenen Kostenstrukturen. Dazu werden Outsourcing-Aktivitäten seit längerer Zeit als eine Möglichkeit genannt, um auf den Entwicklungsprozess reagieren zu können, damit die eigene Marktposition gefestigt wird.
