Die Globalisierung führt zur wachsenden Bedeutung der Logistik, um den grenzüberschreitenden Handel zu organisieren. Viele Unternehmen erbringen die Logistik noch in Eigenregie, obwohl diese nicht zu den Kernkompetenzen zählt aber einen wichtigen Stellenwert in der Wertschöpfungskette einnimmt. Des Weiteren werden sich die Anforderungen im Bezug auf Umweltschutzaktivitäten an die Unternehmen und LDL erhöhen. Führt somit Globalisierung automatisch zum Outsourcing der Logistikdienstleistungen auch unter Betrachtung der sozialen Verantwortung? Die internationale Arbeitsteilung sowie die Erschlie ung neuer Absatzmärkte steigert die Wettbewerbsintensität. Auch die Anforderungen der Kunden sind gestiegen im Bezug auf schnellere Lieferzeiten, Flexibilität und niedrigeren Kosten. Zudem werden sich die Rahmenbedingungen durch erhöhte Anforderungen der Kunden und des Staates an Umweltschutzma nahmen verändern, da die Logistik für einen Grossteil der CO2- Emissionen verantwortlich ist. Es sind Innovationen und Investitionen in der Logistik notwendig. Aber die Logistik ist oft nur ein Randbereich in Unternehmen, da diese sich vermehrt auf die Kernkompetenzen konzentrieren werden um wettbewerbsfähig zu bleiben. Outsourcing der Logistikdienstleistungen eröffnet den Unternehmen Chancen um eine reibungslos funktionierende Logistik als Wettbewerbsvorteil auszunutzen und von den Entwicklungen der LDL zu profitieren. Die Logistik ist zu einem wichtigen Wirtschaftssektor in Deutschland herangewachsen.
