"Once I was young. I lost someone," writes Susan Gunter in her poetry collection Over the Village. Such clarity is sewn with deep images of childhood, including a "rat's nest" of disturbed relatives, bitter rutabaga, and sour, unripe blackberries. These poems trace the "dividing line" that "sunders before from after" with a delicacy that permits darkness to shine.

About The Author

Gunter, Susan: - Susan E. Gunter is a Professor of English Emerita and a three-time Fulbright Scholar. Her poems have appeared in journals in America, Bulgaria, England, Montenegro, and Sweden. She has also published three critically acclaimed academic books on the James family. She held a fellowship in American Literature at Harvard's Houghton Library, 2004-2005. Currently she lives in California, where she writes, paints, plays music, and helps with her grandchildren.www.susanegunter.com
