About The Book

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru many a time led the Peasant’s Movement and played a significant role in strengthening their organisations at the local, provincial and national levels resulting into the liberation of farmers from the bondage of Zamindars and others’ exploitations and the farmers emerged a strong force in the over-all progress of the nation after the achievement of independence. Panditji knew that farmer is the builder of the country and agriculture is the fountain-head of the national progress. He, therefore, worked for the advancement of this sector and left no stone unturned in its overall improvement and introduction of new and modern farming techniques. He had, way back in 1963, pointed out, I may emphasise over the establishment of heavy industries and steel plants, I may talk of technical and scientific advancement and also progress in other sectors; but what is of paramount importance is agriculture and its advancement. Only self-reliance and the advancement of the farmers can decide the destiny of the nations. This research work relating to an uphill task accomplished by Nehru before and after the independence for the peasantry would be found highly interesting and useful for the general people, political scientists, historians and those interested in the welfare of the farming community.

About The Author

Dr. Ravindra Kumar, Director, Kaka-saheb Gadgil Society and a member of International Commission for the Prevention of Alcoholism, (A body of U.N.O.) is an eminent Political Scientist and Historian. He has been associated with the Research Centre of Sardar Patel National Memorial, Ahmedabad, Sardar Patel Society, New Delhi and the Political Science Department of S.D.P.G. College, Muzaffar Nagar, holding high positions. He has brought out twenty four authoritative works on Gandhi, Pandit Nehru, Sardar Patel, Subhash Babu and Maulana Azad. He has rendered a great national service by presenting several thought provoking works on the Problem of Communalism, Terrorism and the Peasantry of India and also on the Religion and World Peace.
