Compared to modern combat sports, Pankration combined various fighting techniques similar to mixed martial arts (MMA). However, it lacked the safety measures present in today's sports, making it more dangerous.

Greek mythology often featured Pankration-like combat, reflecting its cultural significance. Heroes in myths were depicted engaging in wrestling matches that resembled Pankration.

Despite its popularity, Pankration declined due to various factors, including the rise of the Roman Empire. By the end of antiquity, it had largely faded from the sporting landscape.

Efforts to revive Pankration in modern times have included studying ancient texts and artifacts. Modern Pankration includes updated rules and safety measures, renewing interest in the sport.

Pankration has also appeared in popular culture, in films, books, and video games, keeping its memory alive. The sport's influence continues in modern martial arts, with many techniques tracing their roots back to Pankration.
