Zwei koptische Handschriften biblischen Inhalts aus der Papyrus-Sammlung der Universität von Michigan werden hier, versehen mit einer deutschen Übersetzung, erstmals ediert. Ausführliche Indices erschlie en die beiden Papyri.

Papyrus Michigan 3520 enthält die biblischen Bücher Ecclesiastes, 1. Johannesbrief und 2. Petrusbrief in einer frühen Spielart des Fayumischen (Dialekt V4). Die Handschrift stammt wahrscheinlich aus der ersten Hälfte des 4. Jahrhunderts und ist schon allein durch ihr hohes Alter von au erordentlichem wissenschaftlichen Rang - sowohl für die Überlieferungsgeschichte biblischer Texte als auch für die Erforschung der koptischen Dialekte. Der (etwas jüngere) Papyrus Michigan 6868 enthält in seinem ersten Teil noch einmal Reste des Predigers Salomo (Ecclesiastes) in klassischem Fayumisch (Dialekt F5) und ist für die Überlieferungsgeschichte der koptischen Septuaginta ebenfalls von hohem Wert. Der zweite Teil des Payprus Michigan 6868, ein Agathonicus-Fragment, wurde von Schenke bereits 1996 herausgegeben (in der Festschrift für Ludwig Koenen).

Until his retirement in 1994, Prof. Emeritus Dr. Dr. Hans Schenke taught New Testament Studies at the Humboldt University of Berlin and founded the Berlin Working Group of Coptic Gnostic Writing more than 30 years ago. He died in 2002.

Since his retirement in 1998, Dr. Rodolphe Kasser has been actively engaged as Honorary Professor of Coptic Language and Literature at the University of Geneva, and has edited numerous Coptic and Greek manuscripts (primarily from the Bodmer Collection).
