About The Book

Step into a world where poetry and childhood wonder entwine. Parley's Poetical Present, with its beautiful engravings, invites young readers and families to discover the charm of nineteenth-century children's poetry-each page a window into Victorian innocence, imagination, and gentle instruction. This classic poetry gift book gathers didactic poems for youth, weaving moral lessons in verse with the warmth of childhood and home. The illustrated verse collection delights the eye and the heart, making it a perfect read aloud family poem treasury or a cherished homeschool poetry reader. Peter Parley, a beloved figure in Victorian children's literature, curated this anthology to nurture character and curiosity. Antique illustrated poetry books such as this were treasured companions in parlours and schoolrooms, offering both entertainment and guidance. Here, the verses reflect the values and dreams of a bygone era, yet their themes-kindness, honesty, wonder-resonate just as deeply today. The engravings, carefully restored, evoke a sense of nostalgia and artistry that collectors of classic children's literature will appreciate. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today-a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike. Parley's Poetical Present stands as more than a relic; it is a bridge between generations, inviting you to share the enduring pleasures of Victorian verse with the children of today. For anyone seeking a timeless illustrated poetry collection that celebrates innocence, learning, and the beauty of language, this is a cultural treasure to cherish and share.
