Dennoch besteht ein pragmati- sches Bedurfnis, von Zeit zu Zeit Bilanzen wissenschaftlicher Entwicklungen aus einem Arbeitsgebiet vorzulegen, die der theoretischen Orientierung wie der prak- tischen pathohistologischen Organdiagnostik zu dienen haben. Derartige Zusam- menfassungen sollen wie die Pfeiler einer Brucke die Spannungen ihrer Bogen aufnehmen, das heiJ3t die Ergebnisse jahrelanger Forschungen sammeln und zugleich zum Fundament eines kunftigen Weiterbauens werden. So sieht auch der Autor seine Monographie in eine Reihe gleichartiger Obersichten mit unter- schiedlicher Akzentuierung gestellt, an deren Anfang die breit angelegte Darstel- lung von DAEVER und McFARLAND: "The Breast: Its Anomalies, its Disease and their Treatment" von 1918 steht. Dieser folgten die monographischen Bear- beitungen der Brustdrusengeschwiilste von DELBET (1927) sowie von CHEA TLE und CUTLER (1931), die dreiJ3ig Jahre spiiter von CUTLER (1961) neu heraus- gegeben worden ist.
