Die vorliegende Auflage folgt in ihrer Didaktik und Gestaltung der erfolgreichen vorigen Auflage. Berücksichtigt werden zahlreiche neue Krankheiten und Entitäten, die seither durch die Genetik oder neue Techniken der Immunhistochemie und Molekularbiologie entdeckt oder abgegrenzt worden sind. Viele neue, grö tenteils farbige, repräsentative Abbildungen und Tabellen dokumentieren den Fortschritt, ohne den übersichtlichen Charakter des Werkes und damit seine Zielrichtung als Hilfe in der praktisch-neuropathologischen/pathologischen und klinisch-neurologischen/neurochirurgischen Diagnostik zu mindern. Im Vordergrund steht die Morphologie, Pathogenese, Ätiologie und Diagnostik der Erkrankungen, wobei auch klinische Aspekte berücksichtigt werden. Nach wie vor ist die Kenntnis der Morphologie die Basis und Voraussetzung für das Verständnis der Krankheiten in Klinik und Praxis.

About The Author

Werner Paulus ist Direktor des Instituts für Neuropathologie am
Universitätsklinikum Münster. Seine klinische und wissenschaftliche Ausbildung absolvierte er in Tübingen, Wien, Würzburg und Boston. Nach oberärztlicher Tätigkeit am Universitätsspital Zürich leitete er ab 1996 die Abteilung für Neuropathologie der Universität Erlangen, bevor er 1998 den Ruf auf den Lehrstuhl für Neuropathologie der Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität Münster annahm. Wissenschaftliche Schwerpunkte sind Hirntumoren und neurodegenerative Krankheiten

J. Michael Schröder absolvierte seine Ausbildung in Freiburg/Brsg., Wien und München; 1962 E.C.F.M.G Examen. Weitere Schwerpunkte seiner Tätigkeit führten ihn an die Neurologische Klinik und das MPI für Hirnforschung in Köln-Merheim, als Research Fellow an die Harvard Medical School in Boston und an das MPI für Hirnforschung in Frankfurt. 1974 erhielt er einen Ruf als Professor für Neuropathologie an die Universität Mainz. Ab 1981 warer Direktor des Instituts für Neuropathologie am Universitätsklinikum der RWTH Aachen. Sein Spezialgebiet sind Neuromuskuläre Krankheiten: Periphere Neuropathien und Myopathien.
