These are stories written over 45 years of medical practice. They contain humor, pathos and hints of the human condition.There are also some musings about medicine and illness that fascinate me. The book is dedicated to the many patient teachers who have shared the most intimate details of their lives.

Dr. Burnside started his medical journey in Boston at the Massachusetts General Hospital completing internship and residency and finishing as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine. From there he joined the faculty at the Pennsylvania State University in Hershey rising through the ranks to Professor of Medicine and Acting Dean. He received an offer to join the faculty at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas where he continued an active practice and teaching duties while also being the Associate Dean for Professional Education.
